Epigenetic Interface of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs): Implications of Chromosome 15q11-q13 Segment

Abhishek Mishra et al.

Summary: Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are multifactorial in nature and can be influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. This review highlights the role of epigenetic modulations in chromosome 15q11-q13 segment in the genetic etiology and pathophysiology of ASD. The presence of chromosomal abnormalities in this region has been linked to ASD, and several candidate genes associated with ASD are located in this segment. Abnormalities in epigenetic regulation on genes located on chromosome 15 have been found to contribute to the development of ASD.

Valproic Acid and Propionic Acid Modulated Mechanical Pathways Associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder at Prenatal and Neonatal Exposure

Amit Raj Sharma et al.

Summary: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder with both genetic and environmental factors playing a role in its etiology and pathophysiology. This article discusses the effects of environmental factors, such as valproic acid and propionic acid, on ASD development and the molecular pathways and genes involved.

Haploinsufficiency of a Circadian Clock Gene Bmal1 (Arntl or Mop3) Causes Brain-Wide mTOR Hyperactivation and Autism-like Behavioral Phenotypes in Mice

Rubal Singla et al.

Summary: Approximately 50-80% of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) experience sleep problems, and the role of circadian clock dysfunction in ASD development is still unclear. This study found that the clock gene Bmal1 is associated with ASD, and its deletion in mice leads to autism-like behaviors. By partially deleting the Bmal1 gene, the study showed that mice exhibited similar autism-like behavioral changes. This research provides further evidence of disrupted clock gene expression in the development of ASD.

Homotaurine limits the spreading of T cell autoreactivity within the CNS and ameliorates disease in a model of multiple sclerosis

Jide Tian et al.

Summary: Current disease-modifying drugs have limited efficacy in preventing disability progression in most multiple sclerosis patients, highlighting the need for new treatments. Research indicates that treatment with a BBB-permeable GABA(A)-R-specific agonist, homotaurine, can limit epitope spreading within the CNS, potentially offering therapeutic benefits for MS and other inflammatory disorders.
