Inoculation of Neurospora sp. for improving ammonia production during thermophilic composting of organic sludge

Mitsuhiko Koyama et al.

Summary: Recent research shows that inoculated Neurospora sp. can enhance organic matter decomposition and improve ammonia conversion in thermophilic composting of organic sludge. Pretreated sludge with Neurospora sp. exhibited significantly higher organic matter decomposition and improved ammonia conversion rate. Enzymes with high activity during pretreatment were identified to be involved in the degradation of hardly degradable fractions.

Additives for reducing nitrogen loss during composting: A review

Guangchun Shan et al.

Summary: NH3 and N2O emissions are major forms of nitrogen loss during composting, and additives can effectively reduce these losses. However, the wide variety and complexity of additives pose challenges and potential drawbacks. Physical, chemical, and microbial additives have their own advantages and limitations in reducing NH3 and N2O emissions during composting. Future research should focus on compound additives, reusable porous materials, and the activity of microbial additives to further enhance nitrogen retention in composting.
