Isolation of heavy metal-immobilizing and plant growth-promoting bacteria and their potential in reducing Cd and Pb uptake in water spinach

Xiaoyu Wang et al.

Summary: This study discovered polyamine-producing strains of bacteria that are capable of immobilizing and reducing the uptake of Cd and Pb in water spinach. The bacteria achieved this through metal ion chelation and cell adsorption. Inoculating water spinach with these bacteria resulted in significantly lower Cd and Pb contents, higher rhizosphere soil pH and polyamine contents, and lower levels of acid-soluble Cd and Pb fractions in the soil. Furthermore, the bacteria enriched the relative abundances of plant growth-promoting and polyamine-producing bacteria in the rhizosphere, enhancing water spinach's resistance to Cd and Pb toxicity.

Decrease in membrane fluidity and traction force induced by silica-coated magnetic nanoparticles

Tae Hwan Shin et al.

Summary: Overdose of MNPs@SiO2(RITC) induced lipid peroxidation and decreased membrane fluidity in HEK293 cells. The aspect ratio of cells decreased, traction force increased, and cell movement velocity decreased. Metabotranscriptomics network analysis revealed interplay among lipid peroxidation, focal adhesion, and cell movement.

Removal and potential mechanisms of Cr(VI) contamination in phosphate mining wasteland by isolated Bacillus megatherium PMW-03

Shuyu Guo et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Bacillus megatherium strain PMW-03 isolated from a phosphate mining wasteland showed significant potential in remediating Cr (VI) contamination, with enhanced insoluble phosphate solubilization and removal of Cr (VI). Analysis on enzyme activities and microbial structure revealed the mechanisms of bio-reduction and biosorption in Cr (VI) removal. These findings provide insights into microbial remediation for Cr (VI) contamination in phosphate mining wastelands.

Chromium contamination and effect on environmental health and its remediation: A sustainable approaches

Shiv Prasad et al.

Summary: Chromium is a critical trace element for human health, but contamination, particularly in the form of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)], has increased in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems due to anthropogenic activities. Excessive exposure to chromium can lead to toxic health effects in humans and animals, while pollution negatively affects plant metabolic activities, reducing crop quality. Monitoring and implementing remediation technologies is essential to balance the environment and nature.

Effects of chromium stress on the rhizosphere microbial community composition of Cyperus alternifolius

Baichun Wang et al.

Summary: Wetland plants play a significant role in phytoremediation, with the rhizosphere microbial community showing a certain response to chromium stress. The study found that there was no significant difference in community structure of rhizosphere microorganisms after being affected, and approximately 10.48% of microbial community variation was caused by chromium stress.

Study on the spatial distribution of ureolytic microorganisms in farmland soil around tailings with different heavy metal pollution

Xuesong Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigated urease genes in agricultural soils surrounding tailings in two dimensions: heavy metal pollution and soil depth. It showed that heavy metal concentration has a significant effect on ureolytic microorganisms, while changes in microorganisms with increasing soil depth varied based on the level of heavy metal contamination. Additionally, Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Thaumarchaeota were identified as dominant phyla, but their responses to heavy metal concentrations differed.

Bioremediated techniques for remediation of metal pollutants using metagenomics approaches: A review

Pooja Sharma et al.

Summary: Research on microbe-induced remediation of toxic metals has gained significant interest, as it provides new perspectives for sustainable development through bioremediation processes. Heavy metals, naturally occurring but released in large quantities due to human activities, pose risks to the environment and human health. By studying microbial treatment of metals at the molecular level, novel insights for preventing environmental pollution can be discovered.
