Effective Antibacterial and Antihemolysin Activities of Ellipticine Hydrochloride against Streptococcus suis in a Mouse Model

Chenchen Wang et al.

Summary: The compound ellipticine hydrochloride (EH) was found to effectively inhibit the hemolytic activity of the virulence factor suilysin (SLY) in Streptococcus suis. In addition to its antibacterial properties, EH significantly improved the survival rate, reduced lung damage, decreased inflammatory cytokine levels, and lowered bacterial load in S. suis-infected mice compared to traditional antibiotics. These findings suggest that EH has the potential to be a promising drug for treating S. suis infections and alleviating antimicrobial resistance.
