Production, fuel properties and combustion testing of an iso-olefins blendstock for modern vehicles

Vanessa Lebarbier Dagle et al.

Summary: The research identified a dimethyl-hexenes rich olefins mixture (DMHROM) as a preferred bioblendstock for SI/ACI combustion engines, with potential for improving gasoline fuel performance. The production, testing, and measurements conducted validated the suitability of DMHROM for enhancing engine efficiency and fuel economy while meeting emissions regulations and ASTM specifications.

Novel Ni-SIRAL Catalyst for Heterogeneous Ethylene Oligomerization

Gabriel V. S. Seufitelli et al.

Summary: A novel route for producing alkenes and cycloalkanes via the oligomerization of ethylene with a novel Ni-SIRAL catalyst is described. The highest liquid yield was obtained at supercritical conditions, and the dual-reactor configuration proved to be better for the production of cycloalkanes.

Production of bio-jet fuel through ethylene oligomerization using NiAlKIT-6 as a highly efficient catalyst

Pattreeya Panpian et al.

Summary: This study investigated ethylene oligomerization using NiAlKIT-6 catalyst for the production of bio-jet fuel from bioethanol. It was found that higher Si:Al ratios and Ni loadings led to increased ethylene conversion and C8+ selectivity, while excess alumination decreased catalytic activity. The NiAlKIT-6 catalyst demonstrated good stability and regenerability.

Kinetic and mechanistic insights into Ni-AlKIT-6 catalyzed ethylene oligomerization

Remi Beucher et al.

Summary: A kinetic study of ethylene oligomerization on mesoporous 2 wt% Ni-AlKIT-6 was conducted in a fixed bed flow reactor. The main products identified were n-butenes and hexenes. The proposed Cossee-Arlman coordination-insertion mechanism explained the formation of these primary products. An activation energy and global kinetic order were determined, suggesting that ethylene insertion into the metal-alkyl bond is the kinetically limiting step.

Tuning Metal-Support Interactions on Ni/Al2O3 Catalysts to Improve Catalytic Activity and Stability for Dry Reforming of Methane

Lulu He et al.

Summary: Increasing the calcination temperature of nickel-based catalysts on alumina leads to the formation of nickel-alumina spinel, enhancing metal-support interaction and reducing temperature. It also decreases nickel nanoparticle size and increases effective dispersion due to the formation of nickel aluminate. The catalyst calcined at 750 degrees C shows the highest conversion rates in methane dry reforming and excellent stability in a 200 h test.

Ethylene oligomerization on nickel catalysts on a solid acid support: From New mechanistic insights to tunable bifunctionality

Elsa Koninckx et al.

Summary: This study provides a complete and detailed mechanism of heterogeneous Ni-catalyzed oligomerization on solid acids for efficient production of desired products. By combining experimental, computational, and modeling studies, the bifunctional effects of nickel and acid sites on ethylene oligomerization are elucidated, highlighting the potential for optimal catalyst design. The selective oligomerization of ethylene to light, linear alkenes via the Cossee-Arlman mechanism by Ni2+ and further catalysis by Bronsted H+ sites are systematically discussed, emphasizing the importance of reaction conditions and catalyst properties.

Identification of the structure of Ni active sites for ethylene oligomerization on an amorphous silica-alumina supported nickel catalyst

Jinghua Xu et al.

Summary: Two types of Ni active sites were identified on amorphous silica-alumina supports with different contents of Al2O3 loadings in relation to their activities in ethylene oligomerization. The concentration of Ni2+ species on acidic silanols increased as the Al2O3 loading decreased, leading to easier evolution into Ni+ species, which are identified as the active sites.
