Interpreting Observed Temperature Probability Distributions Using a Relationship between Temperature and Temperature Advection

Boer Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the importance of the nonnormality of temperature probability distributions and the role of horizontal temperature advection and other physical processes in shaping daily temperature distributions. The findings suggest that horizontal temperature advection significantly affects the shape of temperature distributions, especially over land areas.

Interannual variability of monsoon onset and withdrawal in Bangladesh

Carlo Montes et al.

Summary: The research explores the variability of monsoon onset and withdrawal in Bangladesh, finding high spatial and temporal variability despite the country's small size. The study indicates that ENSO and IOD can potentially be used as sources of predictability for monsoon timing in specific regions of Bangladesh.

Caspian Sea and Black Sea Response to Greenhouse Warming in a High-Resolution Global Climate Model

Lei Huang et al.

Summary: Studies show that with a doubling of CO2 concentration, the surface temperature of the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea will increase by about 2.5 degrees Celsius, while a reduction in wind stress will cause deceleration of the main gyre circulations. Increased future evaporation will result in a decrease in sea level, potentially impacting ecosystems, fisheries, and coastal infrastructures.

The impact of coupled air-sea interaction on extreme East Asian summer monsoon simulation in CMIP5 models

Taehyung Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between the ability to simulate air-sea interactions over the western North Pacific (WNP) and reproduce the extreme East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) by comparing the performances of several global climate models (GCMs). The CMIP5 models exhibited improved simulations of the distinctive air-sea interaction over the WNP compared to CMIP3 models, with HRA models better simulating the extreme EASM than LRA models. HRA models showed a more realistic spatial distribution of the extreme EASM compared to LRA models, with better representation of air-sea interactions leading to proper simulation of the extreme EASM.

Contrasting the Role of Regional and Remote Circulation in Driving Asian Monsoon Biases in MetUM GA7.1

Summary: The study utilizes dynamical nudging technique to reduce Asian monsoon biases in climate simulations, revealing the predominant role of regional circulation anomalies in seasonal precipitation biases over eastern China and India. In addition to improving seasonal precipitation, nudging also helps simulate interannual and intraseasonal precipitation variability in the subtropical regions.
