Pathogenic Mechanisms of Trimethylamine N-Oxide-induced Atheroscle-rosis and Cardiomyopathy

Youjing Zheng et al.

Summary: Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), derived from dietary nutrients, has a strong association with cardiovascular problems. While animal studies support clinical findings, the mechanisms by which TMAO affects the cardiovascular system are still not well-understood. This article summarizes the potential mechanisms of TMAO-induced cardiovascular diseases at the cellular and molecular levels, and proposes TMAO as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for diagnosing and treating cardiovascular diseases.

Escherichia coli Rho GTPase-activating toxin CNF1 mediates NLRP3 inflammasome activation via p21-activated kinases-1/2 during bacteraemia in mice

Oceane Dufies et al.

Summary: Inflammasomes are critical signalling platforms assembled in response to infection or sterile inflammation, with NLRP3 playing a key role in activating the inflammasome. The activation of NLRP3 inflammasome is tightly controlled both transcriptionally and post-translationally, but the mechanisms regulating its activation remain poorly understood.

AMP-activated protein kinase: A remarkable contributor to preserve a healthy heart against ROS injury

Alice Marino et al.

Summary: Heart failure is a major cause of death and disability globally, with left ventricular remodeling, fibrosis, and ischemia/reperfusion injury contributing to cardiac dysfunction. AMPK acts as a universal energy sensor in response to low ATP levels, playing a crucial role in the heart. Excessive reactive oxygen species can activate AMPK, providing an additional role as a redox sensor for preventing heart failure progression.
