Future projection of precipitation and temperature changes in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region based on CMIP6

Fereshteh Majdi et al.

Summary: This study projected the future changes in temperature and precipitation in the Middle East and North Africa region using data from global circulation models. The results indicate an increase in temperature and a decrease in precipitation in the future.

Evaluation of extreme precipitation indices over West Africa in CMIP6 models

Aissatou Faye et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of sixteen CMIP6 models in simulating extreme precipitation indices over West Africa, finding that the models reasonably reproduced the spatial patterns of the indices but exhibited differences between Sahel and Guinea coast subregions. Overall, the models overestimated consecutive wet days and heavy precipitation, with the ensemble mean performing better in capturing mean distributions of the extreme precipitation indices compared to individual models and gridded observations.

Projected Changes in Climate Extremes Using CMIP6 Simulations Over SREX Regions

Mansour Almazroui et al.

Summary: The study reveals that under different socioeconomic scenarios, intensity and frequency of extreme temperature and precipitation events over land are projected to increase. The intensity of the hottest days in extratropical regions is projected to increase more than in the tropics, while the frequency of extremely hot days is projected to increase more in tropical regions.

Temperature dataset of CMIP6 models over China: evaluation, trend and uncertainty

Qinglong You et al.

Summary: This study investigates the projected surface mean temperature changes over China and its four sub-regions using data from 20 models of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6). It shows that China is expected to experience increasing temperatures, with accelerated warming in Northwestern China and the Tibetan Plateau. The main sources of uncertainty for future temperature projections in China are identified as model and scenario uncertainty, particularly in regions with the largest cold bias.

Biases Beyond the Mean in CMIP6 Extreme Precipitation: A Global Investigation

Hebatallah Mohamed Abdelmoaty et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the performance of CMIP6 models in reproducing the statistical properties of observed annual maxima of daily precipitation using various methods. The results indicate good matching in terms of frequency and magnitude of extremes, but biases exist in terms of mean and variation, with some models performing well.

Future Changes in Precipitation Extremes over East Africa Based on CMIP6 Models

Brian Ayugi et al.

Summary: The study suggests that projected precipitation extremes in the East African region may increase towards the end of the 21st century, with different precipitation indices showing significant changes in different seasons. Intensification is likely over Uganda and most parts of Kenya, while reduction is observed over the Tanzania region. These projected extremes may pose a serious threat to the sustainability of societal infrastructure and ecosystem wellbeing.
