Optimization of a grating structure in hexagonal array with omnidirectional emission for daytime radiative cooling

Junyong Seo et al.

Summary: This study proposes an optimized design based on a complex grating structure to achieve omnidirectional thermal emission in both polar and azimuthal angles, thus improving the performance of radiative cooling. Compared to other structures, the optimized structure exhibits higher emissive power, resulting in a daytime radiative cooling power of 89.2 W/m(2) and a cooling temperature 10.1 degrees Celsius below the ambient temperature.

A visibly transparent radiative cooling film with self-cleaning function produced by solution processing

Guoliang Chen et al.

Summary: Daylighting structures face issues with solar heat and dust contamination. A radiative cooling system utilizing nanospheres embedded in a polymer matrix was found to efficiently cool and clean the structures while maintaining high sunlight transmittance and infrared emissivity. The nanocomposite film not only preserved the efficiency of solar cells but also enhanced their electrical power output by reducing operating temperatures and providing self-cleaning properties.

Optimization and performance analysis of a multilayer structure for daytime radiative cooling

Mingeon Kim et al.

Summary: A mixed-integer genetic algorithm was employed to optimize a multilayered radiative cooler for maximal infrared emission and minimal solar absorption. The optimized structure showed an average normal emissivity of 0.96 and solar-weighted absorptivity of 0.03 in the 8-13 µm wavelength range, achieving a net cooling power of 101.0 W/m(2) and a sub-ambient cooling temperature of 11.2 degrees C during daytime under air-mass 1.5 condition.

Directional radiation for optimal radiative cooling

Suwan Jeon et al.

Summary: The study shows that significant net radiative absorption at high zenith angles limits the performance of isotropic emitters, but simply cutting off components corresponding to high angles can substantially improve cooling performance. By presenting an expression for the ideal directional spectral emissivity below ambient temperature, the approach can be applied to coolers with arbitrary surfaces, serving as a basic guideline for designing practical systems with various surface geometries.
