Extended automated targeting model for total site integration

Wan You Kho et al.

Summary: CHP and TSI are good options to improve thermal efficiency for industrial plants by reducing energy costs and promoting environmental sustainability. The optimisation framework for CHP, ATM, was extended for TSI to allow the recovery of energy from multiple processes in an industrial site through a central utility system. The extended ATM includes binary variables to determine energy content at each steam level, enabling the automated selection of CHP equipment to make optimal use of excess energy in a TSI scheme.

Study on the capacity-operation collaborative optimization for multi-source complementary cogeneration system

Zeyu Ding et al.

Summary: This study establishes a multi-source complementary cogeneration system and proposes a bi-level capacity-operation collaborative optimization model to optimize main components capacities and system annual load dispatch. The bi-level optimization model is handled with a nested approach that combines non dominated Sorting Genetic algorithm-II and linear programming, applied in a study case.

Seasonal design and multi-objective optimization of a novel biogas-fueled cogeneration application

Yan Cao et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel seasonal combined cycle driven by a biogas-fueled gas turbine for electricity/heating or electricity/cooling cogeneration. Through parameter study and optimization, the system performs significantly better in winter than in summer, and environmental temperature changes have a significant impact on the system performance.

Optimisation of cogeneration system and fuel inventory with automated targeting model

Xin Yi Chua et al.

Summary: Industrial wastes with good calorific values can be used as alternative fuel sources through waste-to-energy pathways. This study focuses on the cogeneration potential of glycerine pitch, using a mathematical technique to optimize both cogeneration and fuel inventory systems simultaneously. A case study involving glycerine pitch from a palm refinery is used to demonstrate this extended automated targeting model.

Modeling of a hybrid externally fired gas turbine applied to a landfill and green waste management facility

Saverio Mirandola et al.

Summary: This study discusses the integration of an externally-fired-gas-turbine power plant in a waste disposal facility, focusing on the in situ green waste biomass conversion for energy generation. Through simulations, it is shown that the Hybrid-Externally-Fired-Gas-Turbine (H-EFGT) configuration has higher electrical efficiency and shorter payback time compared to the Standard-Externally-Fired-Gas-Turbine (S-EFGT) configuration.
