Adsorption mechanisms over ZrO2-modified Cu(111) surface for X (CH3OH, H2O and CO): A DFT plus U Study

Xincheng Tang et al.

Summary: The surface adsorption mechanisms of copper-based catalysts for hydrogen production from methanol were investigated using DFT calculations. It was found that ZrO2-modified copper surfaces have better catalytic activity and adsorption capacity, inhibiting carbon monoxide discharge and promoting hydrogen production reactions. The study also considered oxygen vacancies and revealed the beneficial effects of oxygen-defective surfaces on reactions like methane steam reforming for hydrogen production.

Summary: The study synthesized Pt nanocatalysts supported on CeO2-NR for hydrogen production via the steam reforming of methanol. The choice of Pt precursor had an impact on the catalyst's performance, with Pt/CeO2-NR(Nit) showing the best methanol conversion rates. The stability of the catalyst during the reaction was confirmed by real-time monitoring analysis using Mass Spectroscopy.

Ammonia as an effective hydrogen carrier and a clean fuel for solid oxide fuel cells

Zhijian Wan et al.

Summary: Ammonia is increasingly recognized as a clean fuel due to its zero-carbon characteristics and high hydrogen content. Research has shown that Ni-based catalysts are considered more cost-effective and sustainable alternatives to Ru-based catalysts for ammonia decomposition. Additionally, feeding SOFCs with pre-decomposed ammonia has been identified as a promising method to mitigate anode degradation and improve cell stability.

Kinetic features of ethanol steam reforming and decomposition using a biochar-supported Ni catalyst

Ahmed Tijani F. Afolabi et al.

Summary: Catalytic steam reforming of bio-ethanol using Ni catalysts supported on biochar shows promising activity, with the structure and functional groups of biochar influencing the catalytic performance. The interaction between Ni and biochar active sites plays a crucial role in the reaction mechanism, with dehydrogenation being identified as a rate-limiting step on the biochar surface. The decrease in O-containing functional groups in biochar over time suggests changes in its catalytic activity during reforming and decomposition processes.

Huayu Qiu et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on addressing carbon deposition on Ni catalyst during dry reforming of methane (DRM). The study reveals that introducing Cu into the Ni catalyst surface can enhance its carbon resistance and reduce the energy barrier for CH dissociation, suggesting that the dominant reaction pathway is CH* + O* -* HCO* -* CO* + H*.
