Tuning the Doping of Epitaxial Graphene on a Conventional Semiconductor via Substrate Surface Reconstruction

Miriam Galbiati et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates how to tune the doping of epitaxial graphene from p to n by exploiting the structural changes on the Ge surface during thermal annealing, utilizing scanning tunneling microscopy and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. A successful model is built through first-principle calculations to reproduce the experimental observations. The ability to modify graphene electronic properties is crucial for applications, and these results contribute significantly to the integration of graphene with conventional semiconductors.

Easy hydrogenation and dehydrogenation of a hybrid graphene and hexagonal boron nitride monolayer on platinum

Igor Pis et al.

Summary: The study investigates the hydrogenation and dehydrogenation processes of two-dimensional materials on Pt(111), revealing selective hydrogenation of graphene (Gr) domains at low hydrogen coverage and thermal hydrogen release from hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) domains at near room temperature. The presence of coexisting hydrogenated h-BN domains destabilizes C-H bonds in Gr, making H2 thermal release from Gr domains easier compared to a full graphene monolayer.
