Suppressed phase separation in spinel LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cathode via interstitial sites modulation

Yi Han et al.

Summary: The strategy of modulating interstitial sites has been confirmed to stabilize spinel LNMO, improving its structural stability and electrochemical performance. By partially occupying the interstitial 16c sites with Ni2+, the migration and dissolution of manganese ions is suppressed, leading to better lithium-ion transfer kinetics and superior capacity retention rates after cycling.

Understanding Li roles in chemical reversibility of O2-type Li-rich layered cathode materials

Jie Feng et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that regulating the Li component in Li-rich materials can improve their cycle stability and suppress voltage fading trends. Insufficient Li leads to incomplete replacement, residual Na hinders Li+ diffusion, and excessive Li results in Mn valence reduction and severe Jahn-Teller effect.

Decoupling the Voltage Hysteresis of Li-Rich Cathodes: Electrochemical Monitoring, Modulation Anionic Redox Chemistry and Theoretical Verifying

Gang Sun et al.

Summary: Research has found that cathodes in lithium-ion batteries with anionic redox experience issues such as oxygen release, voltage hysteresis, and sluggish kinetics. By adjusting the lithium/oxygen ratio, the electrochemical properties of these cathodes can be improved. Additionally, anionic redox processes exhibit slow kinetics and large hysteresis in comparison to fast cationic redox processes.

To transform maifanite powders from insulators to conductors by Sm gaseous penetration technology

Xinyu Li et al.

Summary: A novel rare earth gaseous penetration technology was applied to modify maifanite powders for the preparation of low-cost and eco-friendly conductive powders. The modified powders showed significantly reduced resistivity and improved conductive properties, with Sm ions playing a key role in replacing Ca2+ and Na+ ions to enhance electrical conductivity. The study also demonstrated excellent thermal stability of the modified powders, suggesting promising prospects for wide application in the electronic industry.

Element substitution of a spinel LiMn2O4 cathode

Shu Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper comprehensively reviews the developments in restraining capacity fading and enhancing the performance of LiMn2O4 through element substitution. It thoroughly summarizes the capacity fading mechanism and categorizes the effects of element substitution into phase evolution and solid solution strengthening, which includes structure strengthening and Li+ diffusion kinetics boosting. Furthermore, a methodological approach for future element substitution research studies is proposed to guide the optimization of LiMn2O4 cathode material in the future.
