Extensive Benchmarking of DFT plus U Calculations for Predicting Band Gaps

Nicole E. Kirchner-Hall et al.

Summary: This study extensively evaluates the band gaps predicted by DFT+U, finding that using orthogonalized atomic orbitals as Hubbard projectors provides the most accurate predictions, in good agreement with experimental data. The use of DFT+U may serve as a useful method for high-throughput workflows requiring reliable band gap predictions.

A size-selective method for increasing the performance of Pt supported on tungstated zirconia catalysts for alkane isomerization: a combined experimental and theoretical DFT study

J. Vera-Iturriaga et al.

Summary: The development of acid catalysts for isomerization shows that mesoporous materials are more favored for product diffusion and accessibility. The newly developed catalysts prepared using a metal alkoxide- and surfactant-free technique demonstrated high catalytic activity in isomerization reactions, producing high-octane number blend in the process. The improved mesoporous structure of the catalysts allowed the formation of well-dispersed WOx clusters on the zirconia surface, leading to high conversion values and selectivity for branched isomers.
