Effects of the length and pressure relief conditions on propagation characteristics of natural gas explosion in utility tunnels

Yimeng Zhao et al.

Summary: As urbanization progresses, the construction of utility tunnels brings convenience to people's lives but also introduces new potential hazards, particularly concerning gas explosions in natural gas compartments. This study establishes an experimental apparatus to model natural gas explosions in utility tunnels, investigating the impact of gas compartment length and pressure relief conditions on flame behaviors and studying parameters related to explosion severity comprehensively. The findings show that gas compartment ancillary facilities may influence explosion characteristics, emphasizing the importance of proper pressure relief design for safe management of utility tunnels.

Expertise-Structure and Risk-Appetite-Integrated Two-Tiered Collective Opinion Generation Framework for Large-Scale Group Decision Making

Zhen-Song Chen et al.

Summary: The generation of collective preference assessments is critical in large-scale group decision making (LSGDM) to derive accurate and reliable alternative rankings. The traditional framework neglects the expertise and individual opinions, leading to unreliable decision outcomes. This study proposes a two-tiered collective opinion generation framework that integrates expertise structure and risk appetite, addressing this concern effectively.

COVID-19 effects on property markets: The pandemic decreases the implicit price of metro accessibility

Linchuan Yang et al.

Summary: Based on an analysis of property transaction data in Chengdu, this study finds that the implicit price of metro accessibility decreases during COVID-19, indicating a decline in the role of the metro and a smaller price gap between proximate and distant properties. However, COVID-19 does not have a negative impact on property prices in Chengdu, and the decrease in metro access premiums may be temporary.

Expertise-based bid evaluation for construction-contractor selection with generalized comparative linguistic ELECTRE III

Zhen-Song Chen et al.

Summary: The paper develops a novel ELECTRE III-based MCGDM approach using generalized comparative linguistic expressions to evaluate bidder performance. It transforms GCLEs into HFLTSs to facilitate the qualitative construction of individual expertise and introduces a consensus-reaching process to promote decisions agreed upon by experts. An integrated subjective-objective approach is proposed to calculate criterion weights and implement an ELECTRE III-based method to handle uncertainties in alternative-criterion decision appraisals when evaluating bids.

Function mechanism and analytical method of a double layer pre-support system for tunnel underneath passing a large-scale underground pipe gallery in water-rich sandy strata: A case study

Chenyang Zhao et al.

Summary: This study proposes a double layer pre-support system (DLPS) to address the deformation control of underground pipe galleries during tunnel construction, which consists of pipe shed and horizontal jet grouting piles, with mechanisms explored in terms of passive protection and active reinforcement. The deformation transferring path and failure modes of the DLPS were analyzed, and a reliable mechanical model and analytical method were established based on beam resting on elastic foundation theory. Through multiple factor analysis, the influence of typical calculating parameters on the deformation characteristics of the DLPS was determined, providing design suggestions for future similar practical engineering projects.
