Klein-Like Tunneling of Sound via Negative Index Metamaterials

Lea Sirota

Summary: This article investigates the analogy of Klein tunneling phenomenon in classical systems, showing that it can occur without relying on the spinor wave function structure of graphene. The simulation of sound tunneling in a two-dimensional acoustic metamaterial demonstrates the existence of this phenomenon, and by introducing anisotropy, tunneling can be achieved at any incidence angle without obstruction.

Broadband topological valley transport of elastic wave in reconfigurable phononic crystal plate

Nan Gao et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the design of tunable phononic crystal plates with Y-shaped prisms to support valley transport of elastic waves based on an analogy of the quantum valley Hall effect, breaking mirror symmetry to open new bandgaps. By designing interfaces between ETIs with different symmetry-broken geometries, topologically protected edge states are supported. A reconfigurable device for elastic wave channel switching and beam splitting is demonstrated both numerically and experimentally, showing potential for practical applications in broadband elastic wave transmission.

Low-frequency tunable topological interface states in soft phononic crystal cylinders

Yingjie Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to achieve mechanically tunable topological interface states for longitudinal waves using soft topological phononic crystals. Numerical results demonstrate the low-frequency topological interface states between different soft phononic cylinders, with the frequency being continuously adjustable by external force.

Tailored Mechanical Metamaterials with Programmable Quasi-Zero-Stiffness Features for Full-Band Vibration Isolation

Quan Zhang et al.

Summary: A new design strategy for a programmable quasi-zero-stiffness (QZS) mechanical metamaterial is proposed in this research, which can achieve tailored stair-stepping force-displacement curves with multiple QZS working ranges and ultra-low frequency vibration isolation capability. The mechanism solely depends on the structural geometry of curved beams and is materials-independent, opening up a new avenue for innovating compact and scalable QZS isolators.

Topological valley states in sonic crystals with Willis coupling

Hongfei Qu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a sonic topological insulator using an acoustic fluid of the Willis type, exhibiting the valley Hall effect. The valley Hall phase transition can be triggered by tuning the coupling vector, and the tunability of the valley offset offered by Willis coupling helps achieve equally robust one-way transport for different types of domain walls and wave channels.
