Synthesis and study of structural, optical and radiation-protective peculiarities of MTiO3 (M = Ba, Sr) metatitanate ceramics mixed with SnO2 oxide

E. Hannachi et al.

Summary: A series of novel metatitanate ceramics mixed with SnO2 were successfully prepared through the solid-state reaction route, showing different crystal structures and lattice parameters. Optical properties analysis revealed that all ceramics had optical band gap E-g values in the range of 3.0-3.3 eV, while radiation shielding results indicated that the ceramics were good attenuators at low energies.

Study of the structure and radiation-protective properties of yttrium barium copper oxide ceramic doped with different oxides

E. Hannachi et al.

Summary: The research focused on studying the structure and radiation shielding performances of YBCO-123 ceramics doped with different oxides. The different ceramics were found to crystallize into an orthorhombic structure with Pmmm symmetry. Through Monte Carlo simulation, it was discovered that the doping oxides disturbed the orthorhombic crystal structure of YBCO-123 and affected their radiation shielding capabilities.

High-entropy A2B2O7-type oxide ceramics: A potential immobilising matrix for high-level radioactive waste

Lin Zhou et al.

Summary: High-entropy ceramics have been demonstrated as a potential candidate for immobilizing high-level radioactive waste due to their low normalized leaching rates and excellent chemical durability. The synergistic effects of compositional complexity and severe lattice distortion contribute to their outstanding chemical durability, providing a strategy for developing and applying high-entropy ceramics as wasteforms.

Trends in reinforced composite design for ionizing radiation shielding applications: a review

Christian Emeka Okafor et al.

Summary: Reinforced composite materials have great potential in radiation shielding due to their lightweight, low cost, high resilience, good mechanical tenacity, and interesting electrical properties. Recent literature has criticized the continued use of lead for radiation shielding due to its drawbacks such as high toxicity, poisoning, lack of stability, heaviness, and hazardous afterlife handling.

A comparative study of (Ce) and (Gd) doping influence on the superconducting properties of YBCO ceramics

Abderrahmane Raouf Hamoudi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the structural and electrical properties of Ce, Gd-doped YBCO superconductors through X-ray diffraction, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, and electrical resistivity measurements. The results showed that the addition of Ce and Gd affected the YBCO system's structure, grain size, surface roughness, and electrical properties. Ce doping improved the critical transition temperature, while Gd doping enhanced the critical current density.

Effect of Ta irradiation on microstructure and current carrying properties of YBCO coated conductors with element doping

Yu Gu et al.

Summary: The research shows that the negative magnetization of the YBCO coated conductors is enhanced after irradiation with tantalum ions, leading to an increase in critical current density and pinning force. The critical current density of the YBCO CCs is improved by 4.4 times at 1 T and 30 K compared with the primitive sample. The microstructures of the YBCO superconducting layer reveal the presence of columnar defects with effective mixed-pinning landscapes.
