Analysis of road capacity and pollutant emissions: Impacts of Connected and automated vehicle platoons on traffic flow

Ke Ma et al.

Summary: A model was constructed to analyze the capacity gain of CAV platoons in mixed traffic conditions, with findings indicating that the optimal size of CAV platoons is between 5 and 10 vehicles when considering road capacity and pollutant emissions. The simulation results were consistent with the theoretical analyses, affirming the universality of the model.

Assessment of Discretionary Lane-Changing Decisions using a Random Parameters Approach with Heterogeneity in Means and Variances

Qianwen Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the determinants of lane changing behavior in congested traffic using a next generation simulation dataset. Results show that average headway, original lane, driver behavior, and vehicle size all significantly influence lane-changing probabilities, with the effect of vehicle size varying significantly across observations.

Bifurcation analysis of a heterogeneous continuum traffic flow model

Weilin Ren et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel heterogeneous continuum traffic flow model that considers the differences of driver's psychological headway and their self-stabilizing effect on optimal velocity. Through linear and nonlinear analysis, the characteristic of traffic flow evolution is described, and numerical simulations are conducted to explore density evolution and Hopf bifurcation. The study reveals significantly different phenomena in heterogeneous traffic flow under different density conditions and the involvement of Hopf bifurcation in traffic flow evolution.

Density waves in car-following model for autonomous vehicles with backward looking effect

Minghui Ma et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel car-following model accounting for the backward looking effect on autonomous vehicles, which is shown through numerical simulation to enhance traffic flow stability and simulate different density waves of traffic flow. The accuracy of the theoretical analysis is further verified through numerical simulation.

Noise-induced instability of a class of stochastic higher order continuum traffic models

D. Ngoduy

Summary: Traffic flow dynamics are complex and nonlinear, with stochastic driving behavior being a significant reason for various traffic phenomena. There is currently no satisfactory general theory to represent such traffic flow conditions consistently. Current models mainly focus on small stochastic fluctuations and do not consider large deviations from equilibrium fundamental diagram during acceleration and deceleration phases. Research shows noise-induced stop-and-go waves in the low-speed regime.
