Numerical and experimental study of the ducted diffuser effect on improving the aerodynamic performance of a micro horizontal axis wind turbine

Mohammad Ali Rahmatian et al.

Summary: In this study, the impact of using an encompassing duct on the aerodynamic performance of a micro horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) was investigated numerically and experimentally. The results showed that the improved duct design increased the wind speed and power coefficient, while reducing flow turbulence kinetic energy.

An experimental investigation of a roof-mounted horizontal-axis wind turbine in an idealized urban environment

Arslan Salim Dar et al.

Summary: Wind-tunnel experiments were conducted to investigate the impact of minor modifications to the roof edge shape on the power performance and wake characteristics of a horizontal-axis wind turbine on a cube-shaped building. The study found that the power performance of the turbine and the wake characteristics are influenced by the roof edge shape.

Innovative blade shape for micro wind turbines

Aurelien Carre et al.

Summary: This study presents the design and fabrication of innovative blades for a centimeter-scale propeller and experimental testing of a wind harvester. The aerodynamics of a samara wing structure is optimized at low Reynolds number. Experimental results show that this bioinspired prototype outperforms previous studies on small-scale wind harvesters in a wide range of wind speeds, providing new hope for improved performance.

Parametric Study on Ducted Micro Wind Energy Harvester

In-Ho Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigates the characteristics and power generation performance of a micro wind energy harvester (MWEH) with a duct by using computational fluid dynamics analysis and wind tunnel tests. The results confirm that the ducted MWEH is adaptable to changes in wind direction and its performance can be further improved by the addition of a brim.
