Pheromone enclosed in halloysite with n-octadecane releases rhythmically under simulated diurnal temperature

Xing Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated a controlled release method for insect pheromones. The results showed that the release rate of the pheromones from the composite film could be significantly slowed down when the ambient temperature was below 15℃, while the release rate would be enhanced when the temperature was near the melting point of the coating material. After multiple temperature cycles, the composite film still maintained persistent temperature sensitivity and good temperature rhythm.

Boosting the properties of a fluorescent dye by encapsulation into halloysite nanotubes

Serena Riela et al.

Summary: A new biocompatible bichmmophoric system (CURBO) was developed by connecting the skeleton of curcumin to a BODIPY derivative, which showed intense fluorescence and red-shifted emission spectra in organic solvent and aqueous solution, respectively. Loading the system into halloysite nanotubes (HNT) improved its solubility and resulted in increased emission intensity in the red region. The HNT/CURBO nanocomposite exhibited high cell uptake and dual-channel emissions, making it suitable for minimizing autofluorescence detection and interesting microscopy applications.
