Sodium hydroxide-enhanced acetaminophen elimination in heat/peroxymonosulfate system: Production of singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radical

Hengyu Cai et al.

Summary: This study enhanced the elimination of acetaminophen in the heat/peroxymonosulfate (PMS) system by adding sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and demonstrated that singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radical were responsible for the degradation. It also identified the degradation intermediates and proposed their pathways. The presence of chloride ion accelerated the elimination of acetaminophen.

Ultrafast degradation of contaminants in a trace cobalt(II) activated peroxymonosulfate process triggered through borate: Indispensable role of intermediate complex

Bingkun Huang et al.

Summary: This study presents a Co2+/PMS/H3BO3 system that can effectively generate ROS with ultra-low Co2+ dosage, showing fast reactivity towards various pollutants. The introduction of borate buffer significantly promotes the generation of ROS, with the key substance inferred as H2BO3--MS. Through theoretical and experimental analyses, the system's high performance is attributed to a turnover frequency much higher than current research.

Metal-free black-red phosphorus as an efficient heterogeneous reductant to boost Fe3+/Fe2+ cycle for peroxymonosulfate activation

Hongyu Zhou et al.

Summary: By preparing red phosphorus into black-red phosphorus and applying it in the Fe2+ / PMS process, the contaminant degradation performance was improved and the radical quenching reaction was avoided, showing superior recyclability and resistance. Multiple PMS dosages can alleviate side-reactions and enhance PMS utilization efficiency, while moderate increase in Fe3+ concentration can reduce by-product formation.
