Summary: This study demonstrated the preparation of TiO2-ZrO2-SiO2 nano-powders to enhance the synergistic effect of adsorption and degradation in photocatalytic materials. The TiO2-ZrO2-SiO2 system showed excellent photocatalytic performance and adsorption ability, with SiO2 acting as an adsorbent and TiO2-ZrO2 acting synergistically as a photocatalyst. The enhanced photocatalytic ability was attributed to factors such as accelerated mass transfer, narrowed bandgap, and effective charge separation rate. The synergy effect between adsorption and photocatalysis was evaluated using the synergy factor beta, showing remarkable synergistic effect in the TiO2-ZrO2-SiO2 compound system.

Heterogeneous catalytic ozonation: The significant contribution of PZC value and wettability of the catalysts

Savvina Psaltou et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of PZC and wettability of catalysts in the heterogeneous catalytic ozonation process. Results showed that catalysts with high wettability and neutral to slightly positive surface charge led to enhanced degradation of pollutants, while materials with strongly negative or positive surface charge and low wettability decreased the production of hydroxyl radicals. Ozone's affinity with catalyst surfaces and production of hydroxyl radicals were found to depend on surface charge and wettability, highlighting the importance of these parameters in the process.
