Homogeneous Ni nanoparticles anchored on mesoporous N-doped carbon as highly efficient catalysts for Cr(VI), tetracycline and dyes reduction

Zhimin Lv et al.

Summary: In this study, Ni@N-MCs catalysts were synthesized by pyrolyzing Ni(II) adsorbed on CTF, which exhibit excellent catalytic reduction ability to Cr(VI), tetracycline, and dyes. The Ni@N-MC550 catalyst, synthesized at 550 degrees C, shows a rapid reduction rate and good reusability due to the uniform dispersion of Ni nanoparticles in the carbon matrix derived from CTFs. Mechanism studies reveal that the reduction of Cr(VI) is attributed to the active H. generated by the catalytic decomposition of HCOOH, while the reduction of tetracycline and dyes is facilitated by the transfer of electrons from BH4- catalyzed by Ni@N-MC550 and NaBH4.

Induced giant piezoelectricity in centrosymmetric oxides

D-S Park et al.

Summary: This study breaks the crystallographic symmetry and induces large and sustainable piezoelectric effects in centrosymmetric materials. The experiment shows the generation of extraordinarily large piezoelectric responses in cubic fluorite gadolinium-doped CeO2-x films, which are two orders of magnitude larger than the responses observed in the presently best-known lead-based piezoelectric relaxor-ferroelectric oxide. This finding provides opportunities to design environmentally friendly piezoelectric materials.

Highly efficient uranium extraction by a piezo catalytic reduction-oxidation process

Yawen Cai et al.

Summary: This study reports a highly efficient uranium extraction method from water using a piezo-catalytic process. By utilizing a hollow cubic shaped Zn2SnO4/SnO2 as a piezo catalyst, the adsorbed U(VI) is reduced to UO2 and then oxidized to (UO(2)2)(2), which can be efficiently separated from the solution under ultrasonic irradiation.

Insight into the piezo-photo coupling effect of PbTiO3/CdS composites for piezo-photocatalytic hydrogen production

Xueyan Huang et al.

Summary: The study focused on the potential of the alternating piezoelectric field induced by periodic stress to enhance the performance of PbTiO3/CdS heterojunction complexes in H-2 production. Results showed that the introduction of alternating piezoelectric potential significantly increased the H-2 production rate, outperforming individual piezo-catalysis and photocatalysis. Finite element simulation further demonstrated the superior piezoelectric potential difference in the PbTiO3/CdS heterostructure compared to pure PbTiO3 or pure CdS.

Summary: The study found that the Ag/TiO2 catalyst can effectively promote the reaction of ethanol to produce hydrogen and acetaldehyde under photo-thermal conditions, leading to an increase in the reaction rates of the products. The activation energy for ethanol dehydrogenation reaction is lower under photo-thermal conditions, which enhances the production rates of the products.

Efficient piezocatalytic removal of BPA and Cr(VI) with SnS2/CNFs membrane by harvesting vibration energy

Wenrou Tian et al.

Summary: In this study, a piezoelectric membrane of carbon nanofibers coated by fewlayers SnS2 nanosheets was successfully utilized for the high-efficiency piezocatalytic degradation of Cr(VI) and BPA. The enhanced catalytic efficiency under ultrasonication was attributed to the built-in electric field and band bending effects, as well as the outstanding electronic liquidity of the materials. It was found that the most oxidizing .OH could be generated in SnS2/CNFs, contributing to the efficient degradation of BPA.
