Unraveling the dual defect sites in graphite carbon nitride for ultra-high photocatalytic H2O2 evolution

Xu Zhang et al.

Summary: Defect engineering modified graphite carbon nitride (g-C3N4) with dual defect sites, -C N groups and N vacancies, has been found to significantly enhance the photocatalytic production of H2O2. The dual defect sites form an electron-rich structure and lead to a more localized charge density distribution, which improves light absorption, carrier separation, selectivity, and activity of H2O2 generation. The N vacancies effectively adsorb and activate O-2, while the -C N groups facilitate the adsorption of H+, synergistically promoting H2O2 generation. The modified g-C3N4 achieved a high H2O2 generation rate and apparent quantum efficiency, surpassing previously reported g-C3N4-based photocatalysts.

Ultrathin mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets with functional cyano group decoration and nitrogen-vacancy defects for an efficient selective CO2 photoreduction

Junyi Li et al.

Summary: This study prepared ultrathin mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets with excellent CO2 photoreduction performance under visible light irradiation. The enhanced performance can be attributed to the synergistic effect of cyano group decoration, abundant nitrogen vacancies, and extremely high surface area. This work demonstrates that structural optimization combined with defect design is a powerful approach to improve photocatalytic activity of carbon-based photocatalysts.

Cyano group modulated porous carbon nitride assisted by silver nanowire for boosting photoreduction of aqueous Cr(VI)

Wei Wei et al.

Summary: In this study, a porous carbon nitride modulated by cyano group (-CN) and assisted by silver nanowire was successfully constructed to enhance the photocatalytic reduction efficiency of aqueous Cr(VI) under visible light. The synergistic effect of the modulated p-n homojunction and surface plasmon resonance of silver nanowire contributed to the improved separation of electron-hole pairs and enhanced redox capability, leading to a significant enhancement in the photocatalytic efficiency.
