Interfacial synergistic catalysis over Ni nanoparticles encapsulated in mesoporous ceria for CO2 methanation

Plaifa Hongmanorom et al.

Summary: An ordered mesoporous ceria, mpCeO(2), was synthesized using nanocasting, followed by strong electrostatic adsorption to prepare Ni nanoparticles encapsulated in mpCeO(2) for CO2 methanation. The Ni/mpCeO(2) catalyst showed significantly improved activity and selectivity compared to conventional CeO2-supported Ni catalyst, with the encapsulated structure and highly dispersed Ni nanoparticles playing key roles. Additionally, the mesoporous structure inhibited metal sintering, leading to excellent stability of the catalyst.

Highly active Ni/CeO2 catalyst for CO2 methanation: Preparation and characterization

Ning Rui et al.

Summary: The Ni/CeO2 catalyst prepared via gas discharge plasma and hydrogen reduction shows high activity in CO2 methanation at low temperatures, with excellent CH4 formation rate and redox property. The unique interfacial structure and metal-support interaction lead to the formation of rich interfacial Ni-CeO2 sites, improving the catalyst's performance significantly in H-2 splitting and CO2 activation.

Mechanistic understanding of CO2 hydrogenation to methane over Ni/CeO2 catalyst

Jinchuan Zhang et al.

Summary: Ni/CeO2 is considered a potentially efficient catalyst for CO2 methanation, with strong metal-support interaction and Ni nanocluster as the most active site for CO2 activation. The main reaction pathway is governed by RWGS + CO-hydro pathway, with H-assisted C-O bond breakage as the rate-limiting step.

Graphene Aerogel Supported Ni for CO2 Hydrogenation to Methane

Feiyang Hu et al.

Summary: The study found that the CO2 conversion rate and CH4 selectivity of the Ni/GA catalyst were higher than those of the Ni/GO catalyst. Ni/GA has a three-dimensional structure and rich porosity, with Ni evenly distributed in GA. Raman spectra show that GA has more oxygen vacancies, TPR experiments demonstrate that Ni/GA has better reducibility, and DRIFTS confirms that formate is the key intermediate for the hydrogenation of CO2 to CH4.

Role of oxide support in Ni based catalysts for CO2 methanation

Ye Hwan Lee et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the reducibility of both metal and support at low temperature, strong metal support interaction, and small Ni particle size are important factors for low-temperature CO2 methanation. The differences in CO2 adsorption properties and reaction pathways were discussed based on reduced and unreduced Ni based supported catalysts.
