Development of a Prognostic Nomogram and Nomogram Software Application Tool to Predict Overall Survival and Disease-Free Survival After Curative-Intent Gastrectomy for Gastric Cancer

Gaya Spolverato et al.

Summary: This study derived and validated a prediction model of survival and recurrence among Western patients undergoing resection of gastric cancer from 2000 to 2020. Factors such as age, preoperative comorbidities, lymph node ratio, and lymphovascular invasion were associated with overall survival, while tumor location, T category, lymph node ratio, and lymphovascular invasion were associated with disease-free survival. The models showed good discrimination and accuracy on internal validation.

Early and late recurrences in lymph node-negative gastric cancer: a retrospective cohort study

Jian-Wei Sun et al.

Summary: This study on 606 patients with node-negative gastric cancer found that diffuse tumors, advanced T stage, perineural invasion, and anemia were independent predictors of early recurrence, while mixed tumor location, advanced T stage, lymphovascular invasion, and elevated CA19-9 levels were independent predictors of late recurrence.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

A nomogram to predict overall survival and disease-free survival after curative-intent gastrectomy for gastric cancer

Alice Sabrina Tonello et al.

Summary: This study developed nomograms for predicting DFS and OS after curative-intent surgery for gastric cancer, which showed good discrimination ability in internal validation. These nomograms could assist clinicians in decision-making and identifying patients at high risk of recurrence or with poor estimated survival.
