Experimental and Computational Studies on the Directing Ability of Chalcogenoethers in Palladium-Catalyzed Atroposelective C-H Olefination and Allylation

Summary: In this study, we investigated the directing ability of chalcogenoether motifs in Pd-catalyzed atroposelective C-H functionalization through experimental and DFT computational studies. The results showed that the thioether motif exhibited superior reactivity and enantioselectivity compared to the corresponding ether and selenoether. Notably, DFT calculations provided a predictive model for optimizing reaction conditions and interpreting the origin of enantioselectivity.

Cobalt-Catalyzed Enantioselective C-H Arylation of Indoles

Summary: In this study, an unprecedented 3d-metal-catalyzed atroposelective direct arylation was reported, leading to the synthesis of rare C2-arylated indoles. Kinetic studies and DFT computation revealed an uncommon mechanism with oxidative addition as the rate- and enantio-determining step. The use of an unusual N-heterocyclic carbene ligand bearing a remote substituent, along with attractive dispersion interactions and C-H···π interactions, contributed to the excellent enantioselectivity.

Catalytic Asymmetric Construction of Axially and Centrally Chiral Heterobiaryls by Minisci Reaction

Efficient Synthesis of Sulfur-Stereogenic Sulfoximines via Ru(II)-Catalyzed Enantioselective C-H Functionalization Enabled by Chiral Carboxylic Acid

Summary: An undeveloped Ru(II)-catalyzed enantioselective C-H functionalization involving an enantiodetermining C-H cleavage step has been described in this study. Using a novel class of chiral binaphthyl monocarboxylic acids as chiral ligands, a broad range of sulfur-stereogenic sulfoximines were synthesized in high yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% yield and 99% ee) via desymmetrization, kinetic resolution, and parallel kinetic resolution. Furthermore, the resolution products can be easily transformed into chiral sulfoxides and key intermediates for kinase inhibitors.

Enantioselective Ruthenium-Catalyzed C-H Alkylations by a Chiral Carboxylic Acid with Attractive Dispersive Interactions
