Recognition of Cis-Trans and Chiral Proline and Its Derivatives by Ion Mobility Measurement of Their Complexes with Natamycin and Metal Ion

Fangling Wu et al.

Summary: This study developed a simple method for the direct recognition and relative quantification of chiral proline and its derivatives using trapped ion mobility spectrometry-mass spectrometry. The method allows for the simultaneous identification of isomers based on their mobility upon reaction with natamycin and metal ions. The developed method offers advantages such as higher speed, better accuracy, high selectivity, and no need for chemical derivatization and chromatographic separation.

Localization of Carbon-Carbon Double Bond and Cyclopropane Sites in Cardiolipins via Gas-Phase Charge Inversion Reactions

Caitlin E. Randolph et al.

Summary: Cardiolipins (CLs) are complex lipids with diverse structures, making them analytically challenging. Electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS) is widely used for detection and characterization of CLs. Charge inversion ion/ion chemistry in the gas phase enhances structural elucidation of CLs, allowing for identification of individual fatty acyl chains and phosphatic acid moieties. This approach reveals distinct isomeric populations and regiochemical relationships within CL structures.

Globotriaosylceramide-related biomarkers of fabry disease identified in plasma by high-performance thin-layer chromatography - densitometry- mass spectrometry

Carmen Jarne et al.

Summary: In this study, 19 molecular species of globotriaosylceramides (Gb(3)) were identified in extracts from a Fabry's plasma patient and a healthy control using High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC)-mass spectrometry techniques. The analysis revealed different concentrations and distributions of these species in the plasma of Fabry's disease patients compared to healthy individuals.

In-Depth Structural Characterization and Quantification of Cerebrosides and Glycosphingosines with Gas-Phase Ion Chemistry

Hsi-Chun Chao et al.

Summary: This work presents a new strategy combining shotgun tandem mass spectrometry with gas-phase ion chemistry to achieve differentiation and quantification of isomeric cerebrosides and glycosphingosines. Collision-induced dissociation of charge-inverted complex cations results in significant spectral differences, allowing for isomer distinction. A quantification strategy using normalized percent area of selected diagnostic ions is described for both cerebrosides and glycosphingosines.

Relative Quantitation of Unsaturated Phosphatidylcholines Using 193 nm Ultraviolet Photodissociation Parallel Reaction Monitoring Mass Spectrometry

Luis A. Macias et al.

Summary: The study utilized reversed phase liquid chromatography coupled with parallel reaction mass spectrometry and ultraviolet photodissociation (UVPD) mass spectrometry to achieve relative quantitation of double bond isomer specific responses in phosphatidylcholine phospholipids. This technique not only quantifies monounsaturated lipids but also phospholipids incorporating isomeric polyunsaturated fatty acids, allowing for comparisons of phosphatidylcholine isomer ratios across human breast tissue samples. The research revealed significant structural alterations related to disease state in the comparison of normal and tumor breast tissue.
