Fluorescent chitosan-based hydrogel incorporating titanate and cellulose nanofibers modified with carbon dots for adsorption and detection of Cr(VI)

Qiuyan Luo et al.

Summary: A novel fluorescent chitosan-based hydrogel incorporating titanate and cellulose nanofibers modified with carbon dots was prepared to effectively detect and remove Cr(VI). The hydrogel showed a high adsorption capacity for Cr(VI) along with good sensing abilities, enabling quantitative detection within a linear range. Analysis revealed that the excellent sorption and sensing capabilities were mainly attributed to the porous structures and the modification of carbon dots.

Green synthesis of weissella-derived fluorescence carbon dots for microbial staining, cell imaging and dual sensing of vitamin B12 and hexavalent chromium

Xiuling Ji et al.

Summary: Fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) derived from Weissella sp. Kl-3, known as CDs-Ws, exhibit strong fluorescence, excellent biocompatibility, and low cytotoxicity. CDs-Ws can selectively label and differentiate cells, as well as function as a fluorescence nanosensor for detecting Cr(VI) and VB12 with high sensitivity and detection limits. The CDs-Ws show great potential in bioimaging and detection of specific substances.

Elemental composition of pork meat from conventional and animal welfare farms by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and ICP-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and their authentication via multivariate chemometric analysis

Ok Yeon Song et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the element content in pork meat from conventional and animal welfare farms in South Korea, finding higher levels of potassium, iron, manganese, and nickel in animal welfare pork meat, while trace and toxic trace elements were lower than standard values. Principal component and linear discriminant analyses explained the highest variance in the group based on toxic elements.

Ratiometric determination of Cr(VI) based on a dual-emission fluorescent nanoprobe using carbon quantum dots and a smartphone app

Chixuan Yao et al.

Summary: A dual-colour fluorescent nanoprobe composed of blue and yellow emission carbon quantum dots was designed and successfully applied for on-site measurements using a smartphone app. The nanoprobe exhibited increased selectivity for Cr(VI) and showed a fluorescent colour variation for easy macroscopic visualization. Accurate measurements were obtained for food and water samples with low relative standard deviation, demonstrating the potential of this system for portable on-site measurement of Cr(VI) ions.
