Diagnostic Accuracy of 2-[18F]FDG-PET and whole-body DW-MRI for the detection of bone marrow metastases in children and young adults

Ali Rashidi et al.

Summary: This study compares the diagnostic accuracy of 2-[F-18]fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose-enhanced positron emission tomography (2-[F-18]FDG-PET) and diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) in the detection of bone marrow metastases in children and young adults with solid malignancies. The results show that both 2-[F-18]FDG-PET and DW-MRI can miss bone marrow metastases, but the combination of both techniques can significantly improve lesion detection.

High-resolution three-dimensional contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance venography in children: comparison of gadofosveset trisodium with ferumoxytol

Puja Shahrouki et al.

Summary: This study compared gadofosveset trisodium and ferumoxytol for high-resolution MR venography in children, finding that ferumoxytol had higher SNR and CNR for the inferior vena cava, better image quality and vessel definition, and more stable venous signal over time compared to gadofosveset trisodium. There were no adverse reactions to either contrast agent. Ferumoxytol was concluded to offer a wider time window for optimal image acquisition and a near-ideal approach to high-resolution venography in children.

In vivo imaging of nanoparticle-labeled CAR T cells

Louise Kiru et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new approach to label CAR T cells with iron oxide nanoparticles, enabling noninvasive detection of the CAR T cells in solid tumors. The results show that labeled CAR T cells could locate to osteosarcomas and off-target sites, while unlabeled cells were not visible. This study provides a new method for monitoring the location of CAR T cells in solid tumors.

Steady-state ferumoxytol-enhanced MRI: early observations in benign abdominal organ masses and clinical implications

Puja Shahrouki et al.

Summary: The study on the off-label use of ferumoxytol as a vascular MR imaging agent showed that it plays an important role in the detection and characterization of benign abdominal mass lesions. The enhancement characteristics of ferumoxytol helped increase diagnostic confidence for benign masses and were consistent with other imaging modalities and follow-up results.

How to stop using gadolinium chelates for magnetic resonance imaging: clinical-translational experiences with ferumoxytol

Heike E. Daldrup-Link et al.

Summary: Gadolinium chelates have been widely used as contrast agents for MRI, but recent studies have shown concerns about their deposition in the brain. Researchers are now turning to the iron supplement ferumoxytol as a new contrast agent, which consists of iron oxide nanoparticles and shows promise for pediatric MRI.

Free-running cardiac and respiratory motion-resolved 5D whole-heart coronary cardiovascular magnetic resonance angiography in pediatric cardiac patients using ferumoxytol

Christopher W. Roy et al.

Summary: A free-running framework for fully self-gated 5D whole-heart CCMRA was successfully applied in pediatric CHD patients with ferumoxytol injection, providing high-quality images for both intubated and free-breathing patients. The method allowed for excellent definition of cardiac anatomy with no need for external gating, suitable for a wide range of heart rates and body sizes.
