Maternal obesogenic diet regulates offspring bile acid homeostasis and hepatic lipid metabolism via the gut microbiome in mice

Michael D. Thompson et al.

Summary: This study used a mouse model to investigate the impact of maternal obesogenic diet on the offspring's microbiome and bile acid homeostasis. The findings revealed changes in the offspring's microbiome associated with alterations in cecal bile acid levels. Transplantation of the microbiome from offspring exposed to the obesogenic diet to microbiome-depleted mice led to changes in bile acid homeostasis and increased fructose-induced hepatic steatosis.

Distal Small Bowel Resection Yields Enhanced Intestinal and Colonic Adaptation

Maria E. Tecos et al.

Summary: This study optimized a highly selective vascular approach to murine ileocecal resection (ICR), which showed superior colon preservation and enhanced remnant intestine epithelial adaptation compared to proximal small bowel resection (SBR). The findings suggest that ICR is associated with greater colonic adaptation and unique plasticity toward an intestinal phenotype.

Small Bowel Resection Increases Paracellular Gut Barrier Permeability via Alterations of Tight Junction Complexes Mediated by Intestinal TLR4

Summary: The study revealed increased intestinal permeability after small bowel resection in mice, but this alteration was mitigated by the knockout of intestinal-specific TLR4 gene.

Liver injury after small bowel resection is prevented in obesity-resistant 129S1/ SvImJ mice

Emily J. Onufer et al.

Summary: The study found that the 129S1/SvImJ mouse strain showed resistance to liver injury after small bowel resection, while the C57BL/6J mice exhibited hepatic steatosis, fibrosis, and cholestasis, mainly due to increased endotoxin-driven inflammatory pathways.

The effect of Tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) and gut microbiota on murine gallbladder stone formation

Qifan Lu et al.

Summary: The study found that tauroursodeoxycholic acid can reduce gallstone formation in high-fat fed mice by improving the intestinal microbiota and inhibiting lipid absorption and synthesis in the small intestine.

Enterically derived high-density lipoprotein restrains liver injury through the portal vein

Yong-Hyun Han et al.

Summary: Research shows that HDL3 derived from the intestine can enter the bloodstream through the portal vein, preventing the binding of lipopolysaccharide and inflammatory activation of liver macrophages, thereby protecting the liver from injury caused by gut-derived LPS.
