Retention decisions and protocols among orthodontists practicing in Canada: A cross-sectional survey

Natalia Cristina Ruy Carneiro et al.

Summary: This study surveyed retention protocols and retainer characteristics among orthodontists in Canada. The results showed that vacuum formed retainers were commonly used in the maxilla, while bonded retainers were preferred in the mandible. There was a variety of retention protocols and retainer characteristics, reflecting the diverse malocclusion traits faced by orthodontists. There seemed to be a potential contradiction between orthodontists' discomfort with general dentists managing retention and their unwillingness to provide retention care indefinitely.

Differences in finished case quality between Invisalign and traditional fixed appliances: A randomized controlled trial

Eric Lin et al.

Summary: This study compared the treatment and posttreatment effects of Invisalign aligners and traditional fixed appliances. The results showed that although the treatment time with aligners was longer, the posttreatment occlusal outcomes were similar to those with braces.

Accuracy and reliability of tooth widths and Bolton ratios measured by ClinCheck Pro

Arun Shailendran et al.

Summary: This study assessed the accuracy and reliability of tooth widths and Bolton ratios measured in ClinCheck Pro. The results showed that ClinCheck Pro systematically underestimated tooth widths compared with other measurement methods and had lower reliability in estimating Bolton ratios.

The predictability of the mandibular curve of Spee leveling with the Invisalign appliance

Shaun Goh et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the predictability and characteristics of mandibular curve of Spee (COS) leveling using the Invisalign appliance. The results showed that Invisalign often overestimated the improvement of COS leveling, with the first molars showing the lowest accuracy. Clinicians should consider overcorrection and the use of auxiliary appliances to improve mandibular COS leveling.

Clinical expression of programmed mandibular canine rotation using various attachment protocols and 1-vs 2-week wear protocols with Invisalign SmartTrack aligners: A retrospective cohort study

Caitlin Stephens et al.

Summary: This study assessed the accuracy and reliability of Invisalign aligners in mandibular canine rotation. The results showed that the attachment configurations of the aligners lacked clinical accuracy in predicting rotation, with vertical rectangular attachments being the least accurate. The wear schedule did not significantly affect rotation efficiency.

Orthodontic extraction practices: a cross-sectional survey of orthodontists in Australia

Maurice J. Meade et al.

Summary: This study surveyed Australian-based orthodontists to gather their opinions on extraction practices. Results showed that orthodontists extracted permanent teeth in approximately 20% of patients with a Class I malocclusion. The majority of orthodontists believed that their extraction rates had not changed over the past 5 to 10 years. However, those with decreased extraction rates reported an increased use of interproximal reduction (IPR) and arch lengthening procedures.

Effect of clear aligner wear protocol on the efficacy of tooth movement: A randomized clinical trial

Mays Al-Nadawi et al.

Summary: Studies comparing the efficacy of orthodontic tooth movement with different aligner wear protocols found that a 14-day change showed greater accuracy in some posterior movements. However, the difference in accuracy between the 7-day and 14-day protocols did not exceed the threshold for clinical significance.

Outcomes of clear aligner treatment with and without Dental Monitoring: A retrospective cohort study

Ismaeel Hansa et al.

Summary: Invisalign treatment combined with Dental Monitoring (DM) significantly reduces the number of appointments and time to first refinement, while improving the accuracy of tooth movement. The DM group achieved clinically similar accuracy in tooth movement compared to the control group in 1.7 fewer months.

Predictability of overbite control with the Invisalign appliance

Haylea L. Blundell et al.

Summary: The study found that ClinCheck software over-predicted overbite reduction in Invisalign treatment for deep overbites. The deeper the initial overbite, the larger the predicted reduction by ClinCheck, yet the actual posttreatment outcomes showed significant discrepancies.

Lan Huong Timm et al.

Summary: In a large cohort of CAT patients, males and those without previous orthodontic treatment exhibited higher compliance. Age and self-perceived satisfaction with one's smile prior to treatment were not strongly associated with compliance.

Reliability of torque expression by the Invisalign® appliance: A retrospective study

Raj Gaddam et al.

Summary: This study quantified the accuracy of torque expression predicted by Invisalign's ClinCheck planning compared to clinical outcomes. The results showed that torque was under-expressed when teeth were moved labially, and fully or over-expressed when moved lingually, indicating inefficiency in torqueing incisors in the labial direction.
