Dissolved organic carbon loss from paddy fields by drainage and roles of common ions

Xiao Pu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dynamics of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in rice paddies and the effects of common ions on DOC flux. Ca2+ and Mg2+ in surface soils were found to have a stronger influence on DOC dynamics. The loss of DOC through drainage mainly occurred during the vegetative stage of rice cultivation.

Estimation of nitrogen runoff loss from croplands in the Yangtze River Basin: A meta-analysis

Yufu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study quantified nitrogen runoff loss rates from croplands in the Yangtze River Basin and identified key factors regulating these losses. Results showed that runoff loss rates increased from upstream to downstream regions, with factors such as runoff depth, soil N content, and fertilizer addition rate playing important roles in regulating nitrogen runoff loss. Models were effective in predicting nitrogen runoff loss rates and loads, with focus areas identified for reducing these losses.

Nitrogen loss through denitrification, anammox and Feammox in a paddy soil

Bangjing Ding et al.

Summary: The study investigated the distribution of nitrogen loss pathways in different layers of paddy soil in southeastern China, revealing differences in the activities of anammox and Feammox in different soil layers. Denitrification was identified as the main nitrogen loss pathway in the surface soil, while Feammox became significant in the 20-40 cm depth.
