Dual task walking costs in older adults with mild cognitive impairment: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Alka Bishnoi et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the effects of different dual task paradigms on walking speed in older adults with and without Mild Cognitive Impairment. The results showed that there were higher motor dual-task costs in older adults with MCI compared to age-matched controls when performing serial subtraction and verbal fluency tasks. All studies included in the review were of high quality, with scores ranging from 12 to 16 out of 18.

Fast gait spatiotemporal parameters in adults and association with muscle strength-The Yishun study

Khalid Abdul Jabbar et al.

Summary: This study investigated fast gait speed and spatiotemporal parameters among Asian adults of different age groups, and their associations with upper and lower extremity muscle strength. Results showed that age affected gait speed and stride length, with gender differences observed in various gait features. Additionally, hand grip strength and knee extension strength were positively associated with fast gait speed and spatiotemporal parameters.

An Association between Lower Extremity Function and Cognitive Frailty: A Sample Population from the KFACS Study

Gwon-Min Kim et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between physical function, lipid profile, and cognitive frailty in community-dwelling Korean older adults. The 6-minute Walk Test, Timed Up and Go test, and Five Times Sit-to-Stand test were found to be closely related to cognitive frailty and could potentially serve as prognostic markers.

Summary: This article explores how aging is associated with modifications in brain structures and functions, which in turn impact behavior. Some changes in brain function may compensate for deteriorated functions, maintaining behavioral performance. Further research is needed to investigate specific motor control processes in age-related conditions.
