Effects of central cut on performance intensification of counter-flow integral heat sinks

M. Khoshvaght-Aliabadi et al.

Summary: The study shows that increasing the length of the central cut can improve thermal performance, but an excessively long central cut leads to a decline in heat transfer enhancement. The optimal length of the central cut is 15 mm, which maximizes the heat transfer enhancement factor and achieves the best temperature uniformity on the junction surface.

Comparison of Co- and counter-current modes of operation for wavy minichannel heat sinks (WMHSs)

M. Khoshvaght-Aliabadi et al.

Summary: This study compares the applications of co- and counter-current modes in wavy minichannel heat sinks, finding an increasing dependence of thermal and hydraulic characteristics on Reynolds number with increasing wave-amplitude and decreasing wave-length. The use of counter-current mode significantly improves temperature uniformity at the same pumping power.

Thermal and energy management prospects of γ-AlOOH hybrid nanofluids for the application of sustainable heat exchanger systems

S. Anitha et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the thermal performance of double-tube heat exchangers with two types of hybrid nanofluids, showing that TiO2-γ-AlOOH/water leads to a 50% improvement in heat transfer rate compared to TiO2-γ-AlOOH/ethylene glycol. However, the latter has a higher pumping power by 30%. Further analysis on the energy consumption of heat exchangers with ethylene glycol-based coolants on an industrial scale is needed for future research.

Influence of base fluid, temperature, and concentration on the thermophysical properties of hybrid nanofluids of alumina-ferrofluid: experimental data, modeling through enhanced ANN, ANFIS, and curve fitting

S. O. Giwa et al.

Summary: The study investigated the suspension of hybrid nanoparticles in conventional fluids to improve the thermophysical properties of nanofluids, specifically focusing on the trio influence of volume concentration, base fluid, and temperature on the electrical conductivity and viscosity of hybrid alumina-ferrofluids. The results showed that an increase in volume concentration enhanced the viscosity and electrical conductivity of the hybrid alumina-ferrofluids, while a rise in temperature enhanced their electrical conductivity but detracted the viscosity. Additionally, DW-based hybrid alumina-ferrofluid exhibited lower viscosity and higher electrical conductivity compared to the EG-DW-based counterpart.

Cooling performance of an impinging synthetic jet in a microchannel with nanofluids: An Eulerian approach

G. E. Lau et al.

Summary: Numerical investigations were conducted on the heat transfer enhancement in a three-dimensional micro-channel using Al2O3-water, CuO-water and TiO2-water nanofluids with a single synthetic jet. Different types of nanoparticles at various concentrations were examined to assess their effects on thermal performance. The study found that the overall thermal performance was greatly influenced by the thermal conductivity and dynamic viscosity of the nanofluids, and the convective cooling effectiveness of the synthetic jet decreased with higher nanofluid viscosity, although this could be offset by an increase in thermal conductivity depending on the Peclet number.

Profit and performance boost of straight, wavy, and combined minichannel heat sinks by counter-current pattern

Morteza Khoshvaght-Aliabadi et al.

Summary: A 3D numerical simulation was conducted to investigate the thermal and hydraulic characteristics of straight, wavy, and combined minichannel heat sinks with both co- and counter-current patterns. The results showed that replacing the co-current pattern with the counter-current pattern can significantly reduce the temperature difference at the base of MCHSs, leading to more uniform temperature distribution. Furthermore, all enhanced MCHSs demonstrated better overall performances compared to the straight one.

Entropy generation of graphene-platinum hybrid nanofluid flow through a wavy cylindrical microchannel solar receiver by using neural networks

Raouf Khosravi et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the performance of graphene-platinum/water hybrid nanofluid flow in a cylindrical microchannel heat sink using the second law of thermodynamics. Increasing factors such as wave amplitude, nanoparticle concentration, and Reynolds number leads to a decrease in thermal entropy generation rate while frictional entropy increases. The Bejan number was found to be greater than 0.98 in all cases, indicating that irreversibility mainly results from thermal entropy generation. Evidently, increasing input variables reduces the thermal entropy generation rate. Additionally, an artificial neural network model was developed to predict entropy generation based on factors like wave amplitude, nanofluid concentration, and Reynolds number.
