Spinal cord iniury after open and endovascular repair of descending thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms: A meta-analysis

Mario Gaudino et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of spinal cord injury rates in patients undergoing aneurysm repair. It reveals that both open and endovascular repair procedures are associated with a substantial risk of permanent SCI. The risk is higher for thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA) repair, especially for repair extents II, III, and V.

Effects of Suprarenal Aortic Cross-Clamping and Adjunctive Renal Reconstruction on Outcomes of Open Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair

Yohei Yamamoto et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the experience of open abdominal aortic aneurysm repair and found that suprarenal aortic cross-clamping was associated with postoperative acute kidney injury. However, neither suprarenal aortic cross-clamping nor adjunctive renal reconstruction affected long-term renal function or mortality. Open repair remains an essential option for patients with complex anatomy.

Drug delivery performance of nanocarriers based on adhesion and interaction for abdominal aortic aneurysm treatment

Sina Ebrahimi et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the surface density of nanocarriers adhered to the inner wall of AAA through ligand-receptor binding. Different types and diameters of nanocarriers were used to investigate their effects on drug delivery. Results showed that liposome nanoparticles had higher interaction and adhesion values compared to solid particles, and increasing the diameter of nanocarriers leads to higher adhesion values but lower interaction with the inner wall of AAA. By increasing the number of nanocarriers injected into the artery, drug delivery was improved.

Management of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms

Andres Schanzer et al.

Summary: Repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm is recommended in men with an aneurysm of 5.5 cm or more and in women with an aneurysm of 5.0 cm or more. Endovascular aortic aneurysm repair has lower risk of perioperative complications and death compared to open surgical repair, but there is no long-term survival advantage. Long-term imaging surveillance is recommended after endovascular repair.

Joshua J. Rennick et al.

Summary: Endocytosis is crucial for the cellular uptake of therapeutic nanomedicines, but current understanding and study of these mechanisms are limited. The use of nonspecific inhibitors presents challenges, and alternative genetic approaches may offer more robust insights into endocytic pathways. Future studies at the intersection of cell biology and nanomedicine are needed to improve nanoparticle therapies.

Polyphenol-assisted facile assembly of bioactive nanoparticles for targeted therapy of heart diseases

Yuantong Qi et al.

Summary: Developing targeted therapy for heart diseases remains a significant challenge. A polyphenol-assisted nanoprecipitation/self-assembly method was developed to easily engineer functional nanoparticles for heart targeting. By using different carrier materials and polyphenols, well-defined nanoparticles with excellent properties can be prepared efficiently. TA-derived nanoparticles showed potent ROS-scavenging activity, especially those produced from a cyclodextrin-derived bioactive material. Moreover, these nanoparticles effectively protected cardiomyocytes from hypoxic-ischemic injury and showed promising therapeutic effects in murine models of heart diseases.
