Class-discriminative focal loss for extreme imbalanced multiclass object detection towards autonomous driving

Guancheng Chen et al.

Summary: The imbalance issues in modern object detection algorithms, particularly in foreground-background and foreground-foreground classes, are still problematic. The proposed redesigned focal loss with re-weighting scheme effectively addresses these issues and improves performance in multi-class classification tasks. Experimental results demonstrate significant performance gains without additional training and inference time cost for state-of-the-art object detectors.

Multi-stream slowFast graph convolutional networks for skeleton-based action recognition

Ning Sun et al.

Summary: A SlowFast graph convolution network (SF-GCN) is proposed for improved spatial-temporal feature extraction from skeleton sequence, utilizing the architecture of SlowFast network in the GCN model. SF-GCN consists of Fast and Slow pathways to extract features of fast and slow temporal changes, respectively, which are fused and weighted using lateral connection and channel attention. This design enhances feature extraction ability while reducing computational costs significantly.
