Prototyping a spinning adsorber submerged filter for continuous removal of wastewater contaminants

Jose Maria Obon et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel configuration of a bench scale spinning adsorber submerged filter, which has good adsorption performance and can operate continuously. By using different particle sizes of activated carbon as adsorbents, wastewater contaminants, such as azorubine, can be effectively removed. For a specific spinning rectangular prism adsorber prototype, operating at a certain rotational speed and adsorbent concentration, it achieves similar removal rates compared to the use of free moving adsorbents.

Implementing eggplant peels as an efficient bio-adsorbent for treatment of oily domestic wastewater

Hyman J. Al-Jaaf et al.

Summary: The removal of oil from domestic wastewater was achieved using eggplant peels as a bio-adsorbent material, with time and temperature having a significant impact on the effectiveness of the process. The Langmuir model provided a reasonable fit for the adsorption isotherms, and the pseudo-first-order kinetic model accurately described the adsorption kinetics. Thermodynamic variables indicated favorable adsorption performance.

Eco friendly adsorbents for removal of phenol from aqueous solution employing nanoparticle zero-valent iron synthesized from modified green tea bio-waste and supported on silty clay

Shaimaa T. Kadhum et al.

Summary: This study explored a new pathway for synthesizing nanoparticle zero-valent iron using green tea waste extract as a reductant and ferric chloride, as well as utilizing natural silty clay as support material. The results indicated that the polyphenols and antioxidants in green tea waste can serve as reduction and capping agents in NZVI synthesis, with silty clay as a suitable support. Both NZVI and SC-NZVI showed good fitting with the Freundlich isotherm model in phenol adsorption processes.

Ali Riza Kul et al.

Summary: In this study, natural diatomite and Mn-modified diatomite were found to be effective for the adsorption of Basic Blue 41 from aqueous solution at different temperatures. The Freundlich isotherm model showed better performance, with higher isotherm constants indicating favorable removal at higher temperatures. Economic analysis suggested that diatomite could be a cost-effective alternative to more expensive adsorbents for dye removal.
