Enhanced twinning-induced plasticity effect by novel {315}α/{332}β correlated deformation twins in a Ti-Nb alloy

Xianbing Zhang et al.

Summary: A new {315}(alpha '') type deformation twinning system was discovered in a full alpha '' Ti-23Nb alloy, in addition to the {130}< 310 >(alpha '') system. After annealing, it was found that the {315}(alpha '') and {130}(alpha '') deformation twins transform into {332}(beta) twins of the beta parent phase. The study concluded that the presence of these deformation twins enhances work-hardening and plasticity in the alloy.

Origin of {112} < 111 > antitwinning in a Ti-24Nb-4Zr-8Sn superelastic single crystal

Emmanuel Bertrand et al.

Summary: In a superelastic beta Ti-24Nb-4Zr-8Sn (wt.%) single crystal, {112}<111> (beta) antitwins were observed after tensile tests. The stress-induced martensitic transformation occurs before plastic deformation, playing a key role in activating the antitwinning systems. The classical {112}<111> (beta) twins cannot be activated in beta titanium alloys involving SIM transformation, while the non-classical {112}<111> (beta) twinning system in the antitwinning sense is always favored.

In-situ observation of nucleation, growth and interaction of deformation-induced α martensite in metastable Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al

Frank Niessen et al.

Summary: Microstructure evolution during the 3-point bending of a metastable beta Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al alloy containing 5% alpha was dominated by the formation of deformation-induced alpha '' martensite. The nucleation of alpha '' plates from {580}(alpha '') habit planes at alpha-beta interfaces, impingement with high-angle boundaries, and subsequent thickening led to a build-up of strain energy inducing {130} < 310 >(alpha '') twinning. The study also revealed the activation of {130}< 310 >(alpha '') twinning by alpha '' impingement in a metastable beta matrix.

Synthesis and characterization of a new TiZrHfNbTaSn high-entropy alloy exhibiting superelastic behavior

J. J. Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, a new single-phase high-entropy alloy was developed and investigated, showing superelastic behavior and a high strain recovery rate. These phenomena are attributed to reversible stress-induced martensitic transformation between different phases and specific recrystallization texture observed.
