A skeleton from the Middle Jurassic of Scotland illuminates an earlier origin of large pterosaurs

Natalia Jagielska et al.

Summary: A remarkably preserved Jurassic pterosaur skeleton with a wingspan estimated to be over 2.5m has been discovered, shedding light on the important role of the Middle Jurassic in pterosaur evolution. This finding suggests that non-pterodactyloid pterosaurs were already diversifying and experimenting with larger sizes during this time, concurrent with or perhaps earlier than the origin of birds.

Anatomy and relationships of the early diverging Crocodylomorphs Junggarsuchus sloani and Dibothrosuchus elaphros

Alexander A. Ruebenstahl et al.

Summary: This article describes the anatomy of Junggarsuchus sloani, a fossil from China's Xinjiang region, and compares it to other early crocodylomorphs. The study finds that Junggarsuchus is closer to Crocodyliformes, including living crocodylians, than to other non-crocodyliform crocodylomorphs.

Re-assessment of the Late Jurassic eusauropod dinosaur Hudiesaurus sinojapanorum Dong, 1997, from the Turpan Basin, China, and the evolution of hyper-robust antebrachia in sauropods

Paul Upchurch et al.

Summary: Hudiesaurus is a Late Jurassic sauropod from northwestern China, with its forelimb assigned to a new taxon, and teeth resembling those of other CMTs. It is distinguished from Rhomaleopakhus, another CMT, with differences in anatomy and stratigraphic separation. The convergent evolution of robust antebrachia and enlarged olecranon in CMTs and titanosaurs is linked to changes in locomotion and feeding strategies.

Dinosaur taphonomy of the Jurassic Shishugou Formation (Northern Junggar Basin, NW China) - insights from bioerosional trace fossils on bone

Felix J. Augustin et al.

Summary: Bioerosional trace fossils found on dinosaur bones in the Upper Jurassic Shishugou Formation of the northeastern Junggar Basin provide important insights into taphonomic processes and paleoecological implications. The presence of invertebrate trace fossils suggests that the dinosaur carcass was exposed for weeks under a semi-arid and seasonal climate before burial by sediment, supporting general paleoclimatological reconstructions for the region. This discovery also represents the first evidence of invertebrate-vertebrate interactions in the Late Jurassic of Asia, offering a novel glimpse into the ancient Jurassic ecosystem.
