Recycling protein selective adsorption on fluorine-modified surface through fluorine-fluorine interaction

Xiang Shen et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new approach to construct a non-specific protein resistance surface with selective protein adsorption using fluorine components. The properties of the materials were characterized and protein adsorption was investigated. The fluorinated nanostructured platform showed non-specific protein resistance through low surface energy and specific protein adsorption by fluorine-fluorine self-assembly. This method has the potential in controlling protein adsorption and release.

Facile engineered polymeric microdevice via co-coupling of phenylboronic acid and Protein A for oriented antibody immobilization enables substantial signal enhancement for an enhanced fluorescence immunoassay

Jianguo Chang et al.

Summary: The study introduces a fluorescence immunoassay method based on co-coupling for detecting AFP. By immobilizing antibodies through co-coupling of phenylboronic acid and Protein A, the immunoassay achieves oriented antibody fixation. The recorded fluorescence intensity is proportional to AFP concentration after immunoreaction, demonstrating high sensitivity, specificity, and reliability.

Intracellular mRNA transport and localized translation

Sulagna Das et al.

Summary: High-resolution imaging technologies have revealed that all living organisms localize mRNAs in subcellular compartments, creating translation hotspots for locally tuning gene expression. Understanding the mechanisms of mRNA transport and local translation is crucial for precise temporal and spatial control of gene expression in response to intracellular and environmental cues. The technological developments in detecting mRNA localization and local translation provide valuable tools for studying gene expression regulation.

Summary: In this study, a pHEMA hydrogel film was successfully modified with a fluorinated layer to improve its anti-biofouling properties. The modified pHEMA showed increased water contact angle and decreased surface energy, leading to significantly reduced protein and bacterial adhesion. The in vitro cytotoxicity assessment demonstrated that the modified pHEMA was noncytotoxic, highlighting the effectiveness of fluorinated surface modification in establishing a hydrophobic and anti-biofouling surface.
