Fabrication of ZnO Nanobrushes by H2-C2H2 Plasma Etching for H2 Sensing Applications

Niklas Kohlmann et al.

Summary: Zinc oxide is widely used in various applications and a new approach of forming ZnO nanobrushes through plasma etching treatment is presented in this study. The study reveals that the nanobrush structures are fabricated by self-patterned preferential etching of ZnO microtetrapods in a hydrogen-acetylene plasma, and stabilized by sidewall passivation and simultaneous deposition of a SiOx layer. High-performance hydrogen sensors are fabricated from single nanobrushes with significantly improved sensing performance compared to nonporous ZnO nanorod sensors.

Comparison of Thermal Annealing versus Hydrothermal Treatment Effects on the Detection Performances of ZnO Nanowires

Oleg Lupan et al.

Summary: A comparative investigation was conducted on the influence of post-electroplating treatments on the gas detecting performances of single ZnO nanorods/nanowires. Different treatments were found to enhance material properties, with higher temperature synthesis resulting in increased gas response to H-2 gas. Thermal annealing and hydrothermal treatment were shown to further increase sensor response, indicating potential for high-performance devices in flexible and wearable electronics.

Effects of rare earth elements doping on gas sensing properties of ZnO nanowires

Sikai Zhao et al.

Summary: The effects of rare earth elements doping on ZnO nanowires' gas sensing properties were investigated and 1% Ce-doped ZnO nanowires sensor exhibited the highest ethanol response. The study indicates that gas sensing performance of ZnO nanowires can be modified by doping different elements.
