Evolution of Hierarchically Porous Nickel Alumina Catalysts Studied by X-Ray Ptychography

Sebastian Weber et al.

Summary: This study utilizes in situ 2D hard X-ray ptychography (XRP) and 3D ptychographic X-ray computed tomography (PXCT) to investigate the synthesis process of hierarchically porous materials. The XRP allows for the monitoring of textural changes, while PXCT provides quantitative information on pore structures. The findings are corroborated with traditional pore characterization methods, leading to a better understanding of the synthesis pathways of porous materials.

Ag-CeO2/SBA-15 composite prepared from Pluronic P123@SBA-15 hybrid as catalyst for room-temperature reduction of 4-nitrophenol

A. Taratayko et al.

Summary: The catalytic activity of SBA-15-supported silver and/or ceria catalysts in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol under mild conditions is enhanced by the developed Ag-CeO2 interface, which stabilizes small particles in the ordered SBA-15 structure and facilitates the cooperation of silver and ceria active sites to achieve efficient catalysis at room temperature and ambient pressure.

Infrared spectra of surface nitrates: Revision of the current opinions based on the case study of ceria

M. Y. Mihaylov et al.

Summary: The structures of nitrates formed on ceria surface were investigated using FTIR spectroscopy and DFT methods, with isotope labelling utilized to strengthen the conclusions. It was found that monodentate nitrates were actually tridentate nitrates with C-2v symmetry, and bidentate nitrates typically bridge and chelate cerium cations. The spectral differences between these species are due to binding geometry and symmetry reduction.

Hydrothermal synthesis of CuO and CeO2/CuO nanostructures: spectroscopic and temperature dependent electrical properties

Romang Bosigo et al.

Summary: CuO and CeO2/CuO nanostructures were successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal route in this study. The properties of the nanostructures were found to change significantly with increasing Ce content, including decreased crystallinity, morphology transformation, and blue shift in bandgap. CeO2/CuO samples exhibited enhanced porosity and conductivity with increasing cerium content.

Crystallographic and Spectroscopic Investigations on Oxidative Coordination in the Heteroleptic Mononuclear Complex of Cerium and Benzoxazine Dimer

Worawat Wattanathana et al.

Summary: Among lanthanide-based compounds, cerium compounds play a significant role in various research fields due to their distinct tetravalency, high economic feasibility, and high stability of Ce(IV) complexes. A systematic investigation of a novel Ce(IV) complex synthesized from cerium(III) nitrate hexahydrate and MMD ligand has been explored, revealing crystallographic information, chemical properties, and formation mechanisms. Analysis of crystallographic information shows the Ce(IV) center coordinated with nitrate ligands and bidentate MMD ligands, with C-H···O and C-H···π interactions contributing significantly to crystal packing.

Controlling the dispersion of ceria using nanoconfinement: application to CeO2/SBA-15 catalysts for NH3-SCR

Jun Shen et al.

Summary: The use of P123 template can control the growth of ceria crystals on SBA-15, leading to improved performance in NH3 selective catalytic reduction. The combination of nanoconfinement effects and inert atmosphere can improve the dispersion of ceria on SBA-15, resulting in enhanced catalytic performance.

Spectroscopy and photochemistry of copper nitrate clusters

Tobias F. Pascher et al.

Summary: Investigating copper nitrate cluster anions Cu(ii)(n)(NO3)(2n+1)(-) in the gas phase using UV/vis/NIR spectroscopy provides insights into their electronic structure and intriguing photochemistry. These clusters predominantly decompose by loss of neutral copper nitrate or a neutral NO3 ligand, with direct competition observed for the smallest cluster. Population of pi* orbitals in nitrate ligands may lead to N-O bond photolysis, with observed photochemical loss of nitrogen dioxide or an oxygen atom in the UV region.
