A Quadri-Dimensional Manipulable Laser with an Intrinsic Chiral Photoswitch

Honglong Hu et al.

Summary: A unique intrinsic chiral photoswitch system was developed to address organized defects in microcavities, enabling laser emission with sharp narrow bandwidth and remarkable thermodynamic stability. This technology establishes a quadri-dimensional manipulable laser with wavelength-tunability, wavefront-shaping, spin angular momentum (SAM), and orbital angular momentum (OAM), marking an important milestone in the realm of nanophotonic information encoding and integrated photonics.

Photoresponsive Covalent Organic Frameworks with Diarylethene Switch for Tunable Singlet Oxygen Generation

Nana Sun et al.

Summary: The incorporation of molecular switches with light, heat, and electricity responsibility into artificial solids has proven to be a successful strategy in constructing stimuli-responsive functional materials. However, the precise manipulation of molecular geometries and electronic structures to control the properties of macroscopic materials remains a fundamental challenge. In this study, a photoresponsive covalent organic framework (o-COF) with a square lattice was fabricated, showing reversible photoisomerization upon UV irradiation. Spectroscopic investigations and theoretical simulations revealed different photocatalytic activities in two COFs due to distinct energy transfer pathways, which could be easily tuned in a reversible manner by adjusting the ring-closed/open form of dithienylethene units using UV and visible light.

Solvent Drives Switching between ? and Δ Metal Center Stereochemistry of M8L6 Cubic Cages

Weichao Xue et al.

Summary: This study found that the solvent environment plays a crucial role in determining the chirality of coordination cages formed during self-assembly, with the handedness of the metal centers being dependent on the solvent. Further analysis revealed that the Delta configuration is entropically favored but enthalpically disfavored.

Digital photoprogramming of liquid-crystal superstructures featuring intrinsic chiral photoswitches

Zhigang Zheng et al.

Summary: The development of a unique intrinsic chiral photoswitch allows for digitally controllable, selectable and extractable multiple stable reflection states for applications in anti-counterfeiting technology. An anti-counterfeiting technique embedded with diverse microstructures, featuring color-tunability, erasability, reversibility, multi-stability and viewing-angle dependency of pre-recorded patterns, has been established using photoresponsive superstructures. This strategy enables dynamic helical transformation from the molecular and supramolecular to the macroscopic level, demonstrating the practicality of photoprogramming photonics.
