Multicentre study of the main carbapenem resistance mechanisms in important members of the Enterobacteriaceae family in Iran

Summary: Resistance to carbapenems in the Enterobacteriaceae family has been increasing globally, with different mechanisms observed in different regions. This study investigated carbapenem resistance mechanisms in E. coli, K. pneumoniae, and Enterobacter spp., identifying the presence of efflux pump as a mechanism in selected bacteria. The most frequently detected carbapenemases were OXA-48 and NDM-1, confirming findings similar to those reported in the Middle East.
