Plug Production for Thermoforming using Fused Deposition Modelling

Olcay Eksi

Summary: In this study, plugs used in thermoforming were produced using Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) and PLA filaments, and were polished to reduce friction. The results showed that FDM is a significant alternative for male mould production in thermoforming, and PLA filaments have great potential for tool production in thermoforming.

Surface bonding of additive manufactured parts from multi-colored PLA materials

Matyas Ando et al.

Summary: Producing multi-material parts via rapid prototyping is a great solution for many applications, but also a challenging design task. This article investigates the mechanical properties of parts made from two different colored PLA in the same components manufactured with FDM technology, particularly focusing on interfacial adhesion.

Appraisal of surface preparation in adhesive bonding of additive manufactured substrates

M. Frascio et al.

Summary: This study compares the effects of different surface pre-treatment methods on adhesively bonded 3D printed ABS adherends obtained using FFF. It was found that the low-pressure plasma (LPP) treatment significantly improved the wetting and joint strength of ABS substrates, shifting the failure mechanism from adhesive failure to cohesive failure. The choice of adhesive material also played a crucial role in enhancing the joint strength.
