Summary: The mechanisms of stress-induced transformation in fine-grained Ti-50.61 at.%Ni shape memory alloy were studied. It was found that a discrete mechanism of stress-induced B2 -> B19' transformation exists in nanograined Ti-Ni alloys, with a critical austenite grain size of about 4.5 nm.
