Electrochemical water softening as pretreatment for nitrate electro bioremediation

Alba Ceballos-Escalera et al.

Summary: This study investigated a novel and sustainable approach combining electrochemical water softening as a preliminary step for electro bioremediation of nitrate-contaminated groundwater. It was found that under specific reactor configurations, a high efficiency of hardness removal could be achieved, and the influence of electrode surface deposition could be controlled through polarity reversal, providing insights for achieving stable hardness removal efficiency.

Combined bioaugmentation with electro-biostimulation for improved bioremediation of antimicrobial triclocarban and PAHs complexly contaminated sediments

Yang Bai et al.

Summary: A novel remediation system involving electro-biostimulation and bioaugmentation showed significantly higher efficiency in degrading PAHs and TCC co-contaminated sediments compared to traditional methods. The introduced TCC-degrading strain and enriched electroactive bacteria synergistically contributed to the accelerated degradation of pollutants. Bioaugmentation treatment helped restore microbial functions by increasing the abundance of functional genes related to metabolic processes, offering promising insights for enhanced bioremediation of co-contaminated sediments.
