Hydrogeochemical evaluation, suitability, and health risk assessment of groundwater in the watershed of Godavari basin, Maharashtra, Central India

Deepali Marghade et al.

Summary: This investigation in the semi-arid area of Godavari basin in Maharashtra, Central India, focused on the geochemical progression of groundwater samples during the pre-monsoon season. The study identified carbonate and silicate weathering as major processes governing groundwater chemistry, along with a reverse ion exchange process and the presence of dissolved minerals such as calcite and dolomite. Recommendations include continuous water quality monitoring and effective management practices to prevent excessive extraction of groundwater.

Assessment of heavy metals contamination and associated risks in shallow groundwater sources from three different residential areas within Ibadan metropolis, southwest Nigeria

Saheed Adekunle Ganiyu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the concentrations of heavy metals and total dissolved solids (TDS) in shallow well drinking water in parts of Ibadan, Nigeria. It found that some metals exceeded recommended standards in certain residential areas, while manganese and TDS concentrations were within safe limits. The contamination levels in groundwater followed the trend of UA > TCA > PUA, indicating the presence of both geogenic and anthropogenic inputs.
