A framework to standardize causes of construction delay

Qais Amarkhil et al.

Summary: Currently, there is no standard method or framework to identify critical causes of delay in construction projects, resulting in ineffective study findings. This study has developed a systematic framework to address this issue. The framework categorizes and connects causes of delay, extracting and summarizing them into major critical causes. Additionally, the study provides a comprehensive list of critical causes identified in the past decade and quantitatively analyzes the collected data. The developed framework and approach minimize ambiguity and enhance the practical application and consistency of research findings.

A Review of Employer-Caused Delay Factors in Traditional and Building Information Modeling (BIM)-Enabled Projects: Research Framework

Mohammad Barqawi et al.

Summary: Construction delays are a common global issue, with previous studies focusing on investigating delay factors from different project stakeholders' perspectives. However, a comprehensive analysis of delays in different types of construction projects in various geographies, particularly the impact of employers' delays in traditional and BIM-enabled projects, is still lacking. This study proposes a research framework to address potential employer-caused delay factors and highlights the need for further research in specific continents and project types as well as in BIM-enabled project studies.

Evaluation of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on the construction sites

AbdulLateef Olanrewaju et al.

Summary: COVID-19 crisis poses serious risks to the global construction sector, leading to reduced productivity, increased compliance costs, delays, and higher exposure to infections for workers. As countries ease restrictions, it is crucial for construction companies to implement preventive measures to ensure worker safety, such as daily symptom checks and providing masks. Compliance costs may rise above 20%, productivity could decrease by 50%, and skill shortages increase by 40% due to health and safety regulations.

Cost-benefit analysis of BIM-enabled design clash detection and resolution

Racha Chahrour et al.

Summary: BIM is increasingly used in the AEC industry projects, but there is still a lack of explicit justification for the cost savings of BIM implementation. A methodology is proposed to quantify the cost savings achieved by BIM-based clash detection, with validation on a major infrastructure project showing savings of 20% of contract value.
